The Regional Asset Map will consist of a comprehensively researched directory of programs and initiatives in each region that correspond with, and serve as a foundation for, STEM objectives. Using the NGA best practices framework as a basis for examination, regions should identify as an “asset” programs or initiatives that possess the following criteria:
STEM Strategic Intent – An asset should intend to increase educational and workforce readiness in STEM occupations, and/or focus on developing innovation.
STEM Literacy Framework – An asset should recognize in its mission or program design that STEM Literacy is the ability of individuals to adapt to and accept technology-driven change, work with others, communicate complex ideas effectively and find creative solutions to real-world problems.
STEM Workforce Connection – An asset should address specific STEM workforce needs that support an innovation economy, such as expertise, interaction, diversity and applicability of the disciplines to real-world issues.
The strategic asset mapping process should consist of four steps:
(1) Define the attributes of success
(2) Define the best practices that lead to success
(3) Identify the assets which are implementing best practices
(4) Define gaps between the identified assets and the overall achievement of best practices
